Alnilam: The Fabulous Star of Discipline, Standard & Honour

Monday, August 3rd, 2009

You are fascinated by the star Alnilam located in the buckle of the Belt of Orion. Looking overhead in early night you see without even a telescope the blue-white star in its splendid glory. “I am honoured; what a great star“you muse to yourself. A sense of elation runs through your spine. “I hope, I have something to do with this star” mulling this thought you turn your head once again to see Alnilam. Now you see the star and the surrounding nebulae bathed in blue-white colour. You remain spellbound. In this blog post, I give you a brief of Alnilam: its Legend, Astronomy and Cosmics along with a Sketch of this great star in your chart.

Legend

Alnilam is located in the middle of three stars that form the Belt of Orion. From west to east, these stars are Mintaka, Alnilam and Alnitak. Out of the three stars Alnilam is most brilliant. It was called the buckle of the belt, something that tightens and at the same time gives an aura of iron discipline. Though loosely translated as “string of pearls” the word Alnilam comes from Arabic “nilam” which means order, arrangement, discipline, honour, being exalted. It is also used to imply authority. The Turks used it to mean governor or vizier. In India the erstwhile rulers of Hyderabad are Nizams. So much is that a person who receives honour in any undertaking is generally described as Nizam. Our star Alnilam had another name given by Arabs; “Alnasak” which means “the line”, referring to the celestial line drawn through the star that links Aldebaran to the north- west and Sirius to the south-east. This line was also considered as authority and standard. Traditions state that many kings wore their jewels in the centre of their crown or following the steps of Alnilam in the centre of their belt.

The belt of Orion consisting the three stars is an asterism itself that is a sub-group within a constellation. Different cultures had different names for this asterism: in Latin America it is “three Marys” reflecting on the trinity of Holy Mary; in the middle-east it is “three magi” who were the first to bless Infant Jesus; Chinese meant it as a beam while Arabs took it as a scale or standard.

The constellation Orion is called Hunter or Giant. The latter was chosen by Al-Sufi, 10th century Persian-Arab astronomer when he drew the constellation and the star Alnilam. Orion was so tall that he can wade through the oceans. Blinded by his father, Orion looked at the Sun and regained this eye-sight. He fell in love with Aurora, the goddess of Dawn and eventually was killed by Scorpio. Orion marks all four seasons in the sky. Orion also said to mitigate the coldness of winter.

Astronomy

Alnilam is astronomically referred to as epsilon Orionis; it is classified as B01a spectral class, which means blue-white very bright supergiant. It is a star of second magnitude in brightness with 1.7 visual magnitude. Alnilam is 30th brightest star in the sky and 4th brightest in the Orion constellation. It is located in Right Ascension 5.60 hrs and Declination of 1.20 degree south. It is seen throughout the year. A solitary star with surface temperature of 25,000 kelvin, its intense radiation makes the surrounding molecular nebulae (NGC 1990) glow in bright blue bath. See the image below:

ngc1990

http://www.astrophotos.net/images/nebula/ngc1990.jpg

Alnilam is 1,300 light years away and about 37,500 times luminous than the Sun and about 40 times the size of the Sun. The star is just below the celestial equator and both luminaries Sun & Moon have occasions to come in straight line perpendicular to the star. On June 19 every year Sun gets into Orion constellation within 2 to 3 degrees and forms a straight line to Alnilam towards the southern direction. Alnilam is moving away from us at a speed of 16.5 miles per second. Like all super giants Alnilam is shedding its mass mostly due to the stellar winds lashing the star at 1,250 miles per second, much more than the speed of the solar winds. Time to come, Alnilam would transform into a red supergiant, in that case, it would be brighter than Betelgeuse, and thus become the number 1 brightest star in Orion Constellation.

Alnilam’s features as solitary star with simple structure and its central position in the belt of Orion and the Orion constellation as a whole has made it a standard in astronomy. Alnilam is used for celestial navigation and to mark position of other stars. Moreover, its brilliant blue colour has made the star an object of study among many astronomers and occultists.

Cosmics

Cosmically Alnilam means three things woven together. Discipline, Standard and Honour; no wonder the phrase “string of pearls“was applied to Alnilam. On the positive side Alnilam gives you unshakable confidence in what you do; makes you an orderly and methodical person; showers you with prosperity and pleasant life; grants you honour in every undertaking you do; finally transforms you as a dignified and exalted person in the eye of friends and enemies alike. Equally important are the negative comics: with success and honour you lose your head; throw away the standard; you are now an arrogant zealot; your piety has taken the back seat. This is how you fall. Not only that you can be caught in a web of deceit or conspiracy like Julius Caesar; sometimes you may be poisoned like Hamlet’s father. Take care. Alnilam is all about discipline, standard and honour; if you take one pearl out the string breaks and you go down the sink.

Symbology equates Alnilam as a line drawn west to east slanting down; it is well supported by the Hebrew letter Aleph implying upright and exaltation; standard and honour. In meteorology Alnilam is for all seasons; if the star and the surrounding nebulae becomes duller in brightness it signifies rain and wind. All blue colour gems & crystals are recommended generally; specific colour tone depends on the star’s position in your chart. Alnilam has positive resonant with the numbers 1, 2 & 3.

Sketch in your Chart

Lunation Cycle: How the Eight Lunar Phases affect you?

Monday, August 3rd, 2009

Lunation cycle is about Moon, its orbit around Earth and the phases or stages in the Moon’s cycle. Traditionally lunation cycle is viewed as an important barometer to understand human lifestyle. In this blog post I explain the lunation cycle in general and review the Eight phases of Moon in its orbit around the Earth. I give a brief on Astronomy and the Cosmics for the Eight Phases of the Moon in a Lunation Cycle so that you can improve your life style.

Lunation Cycle

The Moon takes 29 days 12 hours and 44 minutes (29.53 days) to complete the orbit around Earth and return to the original position where it started. This we call a synodic month. During a synodic month Moon goes through eight phases in its lunation cycle. Each phase lasts a number of days. The duration is asymmetrical, that is not exactly uniform. Like Sun, Moon also rises in the east and sets in the west. Though many consider the Moon as a satellite of Earth, it is in fact a planet of its own. It has a diameter of 2,140 miles little more than quarter of the Earth and revolves around the Sun in synchronization with the Earth. Earth’s gravity keeps the Moon on a specific path. When the Moon and Earth meets on every 45 degree tangentially you can see that the Moon’s gravity rises resulting in greater pulling power for the Moon evidenced in high tides. Likewise when the Moon comes very close to the Earth called “perigee” the pulling power of the Moon over Earth is high.

Lunation cycle is useful to study about mind, medicine, agriculture, calendar, meteorology etc. It is very useful in women’s affairs such as menstruation, marriage and pregnancy. The eight phases are: new moon, waxing crescent, first quarter, waxing gibbous, full moon, waning gibbous, last quarter, waning crescent (Balsamic). A schematic representation is given below:

Moon Phases

Courtesy: http://csep10.phys.utk.edu/astr161/lect/time/phases.jpg

1.New Moon

Astronomy: This lasts from 0 day to 2.4 days. You cannot see this Moon as its light is lost against the background of the Sun’s glare. Sometimes you can see the darkened part of the Moon in the western sky as Moon sets along with the Sun. During this time the Sun, Earth and Moon are almost on direct line at the zero degree in relation to the Earth. In case this alignment is too close we have solar eclipse. Generally we have two solar eclipses in a year. Since the Earth is in-between Sun and Moon, the Sun’s light first fall on Earth, reflects back on the Moon and bounce back to the Earth. This process of Sun-Earth-Moon-Earth is an interesting phenomenon. At this phase Moon lags behind the Sun by few minutes. Astronomically, movement is measured in minutes and hours. The zero point of the Moon tangentially to the Earth can neutralize the gravity of the Earth.

Cosmics: If you are born during this phase, you have dependency syndrome, you cling to someone or idea to protect you. You have lot of intuition like baby tortoises hatched in the sea-shore. You need constant prodding and guidance. You are not good in leading but good in advising, reforming etc. Many will take you for granted. Unless properly guided you may become a dreamer or revolutionary. Your mind is never stable.

2.Waxing Crescent

Astronomy: This phase lasts from 2.4 days to 7.4 days. During this time we can see the crescent Moon in the western sky as it sets with the Sun. The light side of the Moon faces away from the Earth. It slowly grows from a sliver to just smaller than half of the disk. At the beginning of the phase, Moon is ahead of Sun in terms of movement by about 2.5 hours. The Moon rises progressively late in the morning almost an hour late every day. Unless there is dim Sunlight you cannot see the Moon. Progressively the Moon sets late in the evening. You can see the Moon almost overhead in the northern sky after the Sun sets. During this fairly long phase, the Moon passes the 45 degree tangent to the Earth giving it high pulling power.

Cosmics: If you are born during this phase, you are a busy guy, in soccer you are in the wings always running but less scoring. You like growth, cherish greenery and like to be with grandma or grandpa; you can story-tell, bring new ideas of how to fix the roof that is leaking. Once you make –up your mind you will cling to it like a child. You can do things like advanced maths, play chess and card games because your mind works faster than what the body can bear. Split-second decision making is your hall-mark. Negatives are; you always demand attention, go forward blindly even if there is an obstacle.

3.First Quarter

Astronomy: This phase lasts from 7.4 days to 11.1 days. During this phase, the Moon is just over-head, rising in noon and setting at midnight. At 7.4 days, the Moon passes the 90 degree tangent to the Earth neutralizing the gravity of the Earth. On the 7th day half of the Moon disk is illuminated. We call this first quarter because half of total globe is equal to quarter. Sunlight reflected on the Moon is increasing; Moon is ahead of Sun by 6 hours at the start of the phase. You can see Moon in the broad daylight after it arises over-head; Moon is visible from noon till well past mid-night. You will see the right side of the Moon illuminated.

Cosmics: If you are born during this phase you strike middle course in any matter. Furthermore, intermediary work like banking & finance, stock & bond broking appeals to you. You have strong mind and positive outlook. You tend to look after your physique well. Leading an active life-style you are a club-going personality. Negatives are: temptation to make quick buck leading into criminality; craving for self—praise. Depending on your element you either become a peace maker or a trouble-monger

4.Waxing Gibbous

Astronomy: The Moon is fast reaching its fullness. This phase lasts from 11.1 days to 14.8 days with most part of the Moon disk illuminated. At the beginning of the phase the Moon is 135 degree tangential to Earth with high gravitational pull over Earth. Moon is ahead of Sun by 9 hours at the start of the phase. The Moon rises late in the afternoon towards east and sets early morning, before the Sun rise. You will observe the Moon looks closer to the Earth now than in the early phases.

Cosmics: If you are born during this phase you are good in auditing or profession that evaluates and reports to an independent party. A stable mind asking others to “dot the I and dash the T”, you are a perfectionist when it comes to others; in your personal matters, you gloss over details. You are curious, anxious and do lot of coaching your spouse how to run the house. Though your mind yearns for sophistication and good life you cannot get it because you are too honest. Negatives are: your impatience and lack of pragmatism will make you an odd man out. Enemies fear you because you crush them; friends are scared because you do not toe their line.

5.Full Moon

Astronomy: In the night you see the full Moon, a full disk of illuminated part facing the Earth. This phase lasts very short from 14.8 days to 16.2 days. Moon is ahead of Sun by 12 hours at the full Moon stage. The Moon is in the east as Sun sets. At this point Moon has reached half-way through its orbit. This phase is like the New Moon. All three- Sun, Earth and Moon align almost on a straight line. Moreover, the Moon is at 180 degree tangential to the Earth neutralizing the gravity of the Earth. Violent storms specially in the oceans appear during this time. If the Moon aligns more closely then we have lunar eclipse. Generally we have two lunar eclipse in a year. This Moon is also called as Night Moon because it is there in the sky the entire night. After reaching the full moon phase the Moon starts to wane.

Cosmics: If you are born during this phase you always make two choices: yes or no. A personality with bright face and inviting look, you are enjoying the best that nature has given you. You have lot of energy and make others energetic too. You enjoy life and allow others to do the same. Very charitable person; promises you keep, mistakes you forgive. Your magnetism attracts every and sundry. Unless monitored, you will tend to over-do many things. Negatives are: you are perennially weak in relating to the opposite sex including your spouse. There is only one way to take you out: create a fear in you that you will fail. Thereafter you are an humpty dumpty.

6.Waning Gibbous

Astronomy: As the longest spell, this phase lasts from 16.2 days to 22.2 days. Moon is behind the Sun by little more than an hour at the start of the phase. The Moon is slowly receding from fullness. Though major part of the Moon disk is illuminated, it is losing its brightness steadily. At the beginning of the phase the Moon is 225 degree tangential to Earth with high gravitational pull over Earth. The Moon rises late in the night towards south east and sets after Sun-rise. You observe that the Moon is giving much cooler even though paler light.

Cosmics: If you are born during this phase you are a land-lubber, that is neither you will move nor be swayed to accept reality. But when it comes to sway others you will do better. If you are not controlled you will bring the entire roof down. You are good at marketing, advertisement and selling ice to Eskimos. Your mind power is such that it can break any issue into small parts and then join to resolve. Jig-saw puzzle appeals to you. You have the capacity to reflect and report on any event; something like a trouble shooter. Negatives are: You are resistant to change and you simply do not like others pushing you around. At some critical moment you may suddenly give up.

7.Last Quarter

Astronomy: This phase lasts from 22.2 days to 25.9 days. During this phase, the Moon is just over-head, rising at midnight and setting in noon. Moon is behind the Sun by 6 hours at the start of the phase. As Sun rises you see the Moon over-head. At the beginning the Moon passes the 270 degree tangent and the pulling power of the Moon is very high. Only half of the moon disk, that is left half is illuminated. Sunlight reflected from the Moon is decreasing. You can see Moon in the broad daylight in some days.

Cosmics: If you are born during this phase you are a principled person with a rational approach. No place for emotions; “let us see” is your mantra. You come with “out of the box solutions” to any problem. You have the stomach to face insult, defeat and tragedies. Whether success or failure you remain composed and cool. Negatives are: your relationship with the bosses and colleagues is not smooth; many critical matters will remain un-settled. Many army generals have this feature.

8.Waning Crescent (Balsamic)

Astronomy; This last phase is known as Balsamic. It lasts from 25.9 to 29.6 days. During this time we can see the Moon once again becoming a crescent. It rises in the early morning in the south western sky; it sets in the afternoon amid the glare of the Sun. Once again you see the Moon losing Sunlight reflected on it. You also see the sliver thin with the right side partly illuminated. At the beginning the Moon passes the 315 degree tangent to the Earth with high pulling power. As days go by the Moon disappears from your view. The Moon is behind the Sun by about 9 hours at the beginning of the phase and by the time it runs its full course of 29.6 days it l reaches almost 12 hours behind the Sun.

Cosmics: If you are born during this phase, you love light fragrances, light colours etc. You have complete control over your temper; you crack witty jokes. A person with powerful inner power you are good in back-room operations, this is due to your slow burning energy. You tend to study subjects like history and quickly draw parallels in any issue of human understanding. You are futuristic too. Very satisfied with what you have you will not break rules or be un-faithful to your spouse. Negatives are: you have searching mind prompting you to look through the key-holes; fantasize specially in sex; if you are male you may acquire qualities of feminine.

Jupiter – Sun Conjunction in January 2009

Monday, August 3rd, 2009

(Originally written on Blgspot on Friday January 16, 2009)

Bang! Bang ! Bang ! Bank. Straight to the Bank. We must thank 50 Cent for the number “Straight to the Bank “ this is what came to my mind when analysing the Jupiter – Sun Conjunction taking place on Saturday, January 24 this year. When Jupiter bangs upon the Sun ( not physically anyway ) it presages that only banks including the often maligned World Bank can salvage you and many others out there from this economic recession. This conjunction gives more weight to banks, financial ministries and presidencies of many countries across the globe in their goal of reversing the economic recession.

At 7.00 UTC/GMT time on January 24, the Jupiter- Sun Conjunction of January 2009 takes place with both good and bad news. Good news is….. You guessed it right, the economic recession is slowly winding-up. The bad news is everyone is conserving cash that the economic engine is out of gas. This is where the banks can come in, provided they have the tenacity to weather the crisis and governments have the willingness to lend these institutions capital and bailouts. In this blog I write about the Jupiter – Sun Conjunction January 2009 in terms of positional astronomy, stars, constellation and cosmic interpretation.

1. Positional Astronomy

1. The conjunction takes place in-between two stars Pi Capricorni and Rho Capricorni both in the Capricornus constellation. This constellation is historically depicted as a Sea –Goat. On the celestial sphere the conjunction takes place at Right Ascension (RA) 20.42 hours and on the Declination (DEC) at 19.44 degrees South. As a result, the planet Jupiter would be in total eclipse and thereafter could not be viewed from the earth till end of this month

2. Sun enters the Capricornus constellation on January 20, whereas Jupiter has already entered it on January 4. Sun would leave the constellation on February 14, while Jupiter continues its stay till early February 2010.

3. The previous Jupiter- Sun conjunction took place on December 23, 2007; the next is due end – February 2010

4. Simultaneously, the Moon, which is on 27.9 days, almost at the end of its lunation cycle, occults (over-shadows) the Star Nunki (Sigma Sagittari) in the Sagittarius constellation.

2. Stars

1. Pi Capricorni : this star is called “Oculus” ( Latin – Eye), located in the right eye of the sea-goat. A triple star system with close companions these star showers blue to white colour lamination. It is a bright giant, approximately 670 light years away, classified as B8III star with a visual magnitude of 5.0. It is located at RA 20.43 hours

2. Rho Capricorni : this star is east of the previous one by 0.03 hours, about 27 minutes apart. Called as “ Bos “ ( Latin – Bull) it is located on the right side of the face little away from the right eye. A binary star with a visual magnitude of 4.78 it is classified as F2IV, a yellowish- white sub-giant and approximately 98 light years away from the earth. This star is located at RA 20.46 hours

Both stars are considered to be a good pair. A sketch of the stars is shown below; see right just above the minus 20 latitude:

clip_image002

Courtesy : http://www.astrofilitrentini.it/mat/costell/cap_e.html

3. Capricornus Constellation

One of the ancient and mysterious constellations, Capricornus is celebrated as God in many cultures. In Greek mythology it is “Pan” the god of flocks, shepherds, hunting and rustic music. Often the god is presented with human legs and with goat’s horns. Pan is very lustful and at the same time has a helpful disposition. For all his misdemeanours, the gods are pleased with him as he forewarns dangers.

But the Babylonian had another version of the constellation. In Babylonia he is” EA” or “ ENKI” , the God who educates and rewards; god of intelligence and intuition. This god was depicted to have human upper part lower part of a Fish. In Hindu mythology, Lord Vishnu is said to have taken an incarnation called Matsaya ( Fish ) to save the Hindu sacred books of Vedas from deluge that threatened the entire humanity. EA often appears on earth pre-warning calamities and educating how to save from these. In one instance EA has taught people to make an ark during a deluge. This story is comparable with the Noah’s Ark in the Bible. For more than 15,000 years the Babylonians have been celebrating god EA donning goat’s skin. God Ea can be compared with God Osiris in Egyptian mythology – a do-gooder and educator. In early times, the December solstice was marked in the Capricornus constellation. Due to precession of earth , this is now in Sagittarius constellation. However, many systems such as astrology still use Capricornus as a sign for winter solstice.

Astronomically, this constellation is very significant. It braces the Tropic of Capricorn , an imaginary line on 23 degrees and 30 minutes South of Equator. Furthermore, the planet Neptune was discovered in 1846 traversing within the Capricornus constellation.

4. Cosmic Interpretation

The following are highlights of the cosmic interpretations, though does not form an exhaustive list :

1. Whenever the Sun traverses through Capricornus, it mixes cold with warmth. The cold wintry air which has less humidity is heated with cosmics to make people from falling sick. Chronic ailments such as rheumatism would generally be relieved. More minerals such as potassium and magnesium are stored in the sun-light that is showered all over the earth. Sun goes on to patch-up things; make peace between warring enemies; brings end to sufferings; harmony would be restored. Before it leaves the constellation Sun makes things happen around you

2. As the conjunction takes place in a very auspicious location of the “ pair” , that is two stars that are considered so, economic and political leadership would be very much balanced. The good indication was how the Gas Row between Russia and Ukraine was resolved recently.

3. This conjunction taking place in the first week of Obama Presidency itself is remarkable. Barack Obama has a full plate of problems both domestic and international, which he and he alone can handle. In doing so, he would combine political and economic acumen and resourcefulness. He will complete the Herculean tasks of Un-doing of actions by despots, Establishing peace, Stabilizing the world economic system & Investing in prosperity and growth( Read details in my blog post Mars- Sun conjunction in December 2008” ).

4. Barack Obama’s priority would be two-fold; one is to reverse the Economic Recession. The burden of stabilizing the world economy will be shared by USA, European Community, Japan and China as I mentioned in my blog post “ Forecast 2009 ”. The Jupiter – Sun Conjunction reinforces this point. My prediction of bloodletting continuing in the Middle –east, Afghanistan, Kashmir and Palestine and peace prevailing in countries bordering East and South China Sea and the Caucasus is also lent credence. ( Read details in my blog post “ Forecast 2009 ”). Knotty issues such as Cuba and Venezuela would be gradually eased

5. Good time for politicians, commanders –in chief of countries but bad for commanders-in chief of armed forces. Church and business leaders gain respect while trigger –happy men would be perished.

6. Diplomacy is in the fore-front; we see a United Nations where consensus reigns rather than cold war brinkmanship

7. Services such as education, shipping would grow; entertainment industry would be driven by music and videos rather than big budget films. Manufacturing industries that cater to the civilian needs would rise; arms and ammos would, however , plummet. Technology takes the back-seat; computers and software dwindle. Gas, oil and other cartels would see trouble; all these reinforcing my comments made in 2009 Forecast

8. Health wise it is bad for people suffering from chronic ailments and those connected with liver and head; ailments in the heart and hands abate; the ones affecting legs would be stagnant. Those who are obese run big risk

9. Serious incidents in the oceans are forecast; while Somali piracy goes down major accidents would occur; climate would also prove to be nasty

10. The danger of an asteroid hitting the Earth is a possibility. The Asteroid Belt between Mars & Jupiter needs more study than it receives now

11. Those who are born under stars of Sagittarius, Capricornus and Pisces constellations would do very well. Spotlight is turned on the following stars in these constellations:

· Sagittarius : Ascella ( zeta) Nunki (sigma) Kaus borealis ( lambda) tau & phi

· Capricornus: Algedi(alpha) Dabih(beta) Nashira( gamma) Deneb Algedi ( delta) , sigma, pi, rho & upsilon

· Pisces : Gamma, Beta ( Fom-Al- Samakah ) , theta, iota, lambda kappa & 19 piscium

12. Those who have 6 & 3 in their number combinations would excel

13. This is time for expansion and not contraction; lot of energy cascading; intelligence combined with money should see an end to financial downswing. But as stated in “ 2009 Forecast “ expenditure overall would be curtailed. That begs the question who and what can be done to reverse this trend.

14. Now we go back to the beginning of this blog post. Yes it is the Bank; Barack Obama has to convene a meeting of big industrialized nations and the representatives of the big banks and chalk out a plan immediately. Recession that kept everyone to bow his head would be over. As the first quarter ends on 31st March, there would be a sigh of relief throughout the world. My best wishes to the leaders of nations across the globe for making peace and prosperity a reality.

Forecast 2009

Friday, July 31st, 2009

(Originally written on Blogspot on Sunday December 21, 2008)

As the world awaits the inauguration of Barack Obama as the 44th President of the United Sates, the sky is trembling. Will there be peace or war? Will economy recover or nosedive further? Will climate improve or turns hotter? All these questions are in the lips of the people around the world. Media channels are discussing, newspapers are predicting and laymen are fantasizing. Surely their concerns are addressed to, by the heavens. The message is clear and loud: “It is up to you”. In this blog post I draw the sky map, and review the celestial bodies and give you the cosmic interpretation.

1. Sky Map

This month the new moon is on Saturday, December 27. It also heralds the first month of Muharram in the Islamic Calendar. At 6.00 p.m., on this day, looking out at the south-western sky from the vantage point in the holy city of Mecca, I trace the following sky map:

1. The new moon is just 0.2 days old and is in the twentieth lunar mansion of Al-Naam ( Ostriches) which activates the number 6 and tames wild beasts and anger

2. Five planets are in somewhat direct formation as:

    • Mars Right Ascension 18.03 hours
    • Sun do 18.45 hours
    • Moon do 18.50 hours
    • Mercury do 19.72 hours
    • Jupiter do 19.99 hours

3. Incidentally all these five planets are in the Sagittarius constellation in that order. Mars is just entering and Jupiter is about to leave. Sagittarius constellation represents the Centaur (a figure of half –horse and half-man in Greek mythology). Ptolemy originally drew this figure and is followed ever since. This constellation is full of bright stars and a wealth of deep sky objects such as clusters and nebulae. It also marks the December solstice. According to occultism it relates to the number 6 and to the figure of “Lovers”. When Moon is in the constellation it is a double sixer. A sixer is a cricket parlance where a batsman hits the ball to fly over the fence resulting in a score of 6 runs

4. Both luminaries Sun and Moon are on North-South alignment encompassing between them, the bright star Kaus Borealis and two star clusters M 28 Globular and M 25 Open. The Moon also conjuncts the M 25 open

5. Mars enters the December solstice, which is winter in northern hemisphere and summer in southern hemisphere. Mars is in company with three star clusters; M20 Trifid, M21 Open and M8 Lagoon. The last one is the most active star forming cluster in the sky now. Please read about these 3 clusters in my blog post “Cosmic Sunbath during December Solstice”.

6. The departing Jupiter says hello to M75 Globular cluster. You can read about the M75 cluster in my blog post “Will Israel Attack Nuclear sites in Iran?

Oh Grace, I stopped with Number 6

2. Review of the Celestial Bodies

A review of the star Kaus Borealis and clusters M 25 & M28 are given below:

Kaus Borealis

This magnificent star is located in the handle of the bow where the arrow is placed. In Arabic it is “Al-Qaus-Al-Shamaliya” meaning the northern bow. Due to the location of the star somewhat away from the centre, Al Tizini the 15th Century Arab astronomer called it as “ Rai-Al- Naaim “ meaning the keeper of ostriches. Al-Kazwini called it as “ Al-Thalimain” meaning “watchers” because the star Kaus Borealis is deemed a protector of many stars under its care. This star marks two asterisms that is a group within a constellation. These are: the Milk Dipper and the Bow. To be born under this star is considered to be very auspicious indeed.

Astronomically, the star has a great magnetic field and emits X-rays throughout. Located some 77 light years away, the star is classified as K1V Dwarf. It is about 50 times luminous than the Sun and about 3 times the size of the Sun. A supernova exploded close to this star location exploded some 2400 years ago.

M25 Open

A remarkable open cluster containing about 600 big stars out of which about five are giant stars. It also contains few variable stars as well. Located about some 2300 light years away, its hot rays are cosmically exhilarating

M28 Globular

It is small compared to many globular. Located some 18,000 light years away it must be fantastically bright to enable us to view it despite its small size. Some astronomers think it is a nebulae and not a cluster. Whatever it is, this star cluster is most active and alive. Recently pulsars that spin on their axis in milliseconds were found in this cluster making it a very lively one.

3. Cosmic Interpretation

1. Phew! It is going to be too hot in 2009. The hole in the ozone layer will be more gaping. Heat wave will be seen in many countries between the equator and the Tropical lines especially in sub-Sahara and desert nations. On average climate will be hotter by points of a degree of Celsius. Correspondingly, there shall be storms and rains lashing at the eastern China Sea and western pacific. Eastern Indian Ocean will be very much unstable. Tsunami type storms will originate from mid-pacific to travel far and wise. Earthquakes would be experienced in many fault areas.

2 More than the temporal climate, the ambience in the economy will be damning. Crisis situation will continue for the first quarter of 2009 with little abatement. I shall review this position when Jupiter conjuncts Sun on January 24, 2009.

The burden of stabilizing the world economy will be shared by USA, European Community, Japan and China. Initially a reluctant Russia would join hands later. A joint US- China co-operation should kick-start the economy, later joined by some of the laggards such as Canada and Australia. Fringe countries Brazil, India and Turkey could contribute with human and technical resources

3 Politically, peace is the most endangered species; under constant stress, it will reach breaking point. Only the intervention of the level-headed men and women advising the presidents of USA, Russia and China, will make peace prevail. All these countries will have presidents who are flexible, who reason out their arguments and exert their positions with diplomacy and force in equal measure based on sense of justice and fair-play. Although nationalistic, these presidents would be humanist in their approach.

But trigger-happy men would roam all over the world. The struggle between love and hate would continue throughout the year. They would generate heat globally and would be ready to facilitate and finance the war. Middle –east, Afghanistan, Kashmir and Palestine would continue to be flash-points whereas countries bordering East and South China Sea turn calmer. So would be the Caucasus.

4. Rise of Russia, China, Brazil and Turkey is foreshown; decline of USA, Japan and India is predicted. European Countries would be stagnant. Oil and resource exporters will go through political turmoil besides a sluggish economy

5. Globally, people would be much worried about themselves rather than others. The age of milk and honey would be replaced by work and sweat. Little charity will be forthcoming. Sports and leisure would be of less priority; health-care and shelter would receive more attention. Un-employment would lead to high crime rate

6. But there is a silver lining; more people would be attracted to walk in the path of god which is the path of glory. They will ask for transparency in their government; call for freedom; rise-up for justice and fair-play. And finally more people would pray for peace.

Elnath Star and Praying for Peace

Friday, July 31st, 2009

(Originally written on Blogspot on Thursday, December 11, 2008)

Praying for peace is generally left with priests and preachers of religions. Many busy men and women never bothered to say prayers for peace. Not anymore. This decade has brought such calamities to you me and to the other guy. Right now we are all concerned with peace as the guiding mantra for prosperity in the year 2009. The litmus test is whether peace would prevail or not. A signal from the heaven indicates that peace would prevail only if humanity joins in prayer for peace.

I observed an interesting phenomenon. Looking at the evening sky from the city of Bethlehem towards the eastern direction on Friday December 12, a full moon day I observed the white and brilliant Moon is on the line of sight with the star Elnath towards the north-westerly direction. Both are pretty close in terms of degree, just about one and half. Both are brilliant white. To cap it all both are showering bright light down on the earth. Let me explain about the star, its cosmics and the way you and me can pray for peace and prosperity in the year 2009.

1. Elnath, the Star of mystery

Elnath has been steeped in mystery. Though mentioned from the Babylonian times, the position of the star as regards to astronomy has not been clear. Early Greek writers including Ptolemy and Aratus considered the star as part of the Taurus (Bull) constellation. Thereafter, Arab astronomers included it in the Auriga (Charioteer or Rein-holder) constellation, and referred it as “ Al- Kab – Dhil Inan meaning “ the heel of the rein-holder”. Al-Kazwini, the 13th century Persian astronomer called it as “ Al- Tawabi – Al – Ayyuk” meaning “ the two in the ankles” because the star Elnath is a double star located on the ankle of the charioteer. In 17th century, Bayer, the German astronomer agreed and gave the name gamma Aurigae.

But the star’s position in the borderline between Taurus and Auriga gave rise to debate once again. Later Arab astronomers described the star as “ Al–Karn Al–Thaur Al – Shamaliyyah” meaning “ northern horn of the bull”. In fact the name of the star is derived from Arabic Al Nath meaning “Butting with the horn”. Modern astronomers tend to agree with this stance and have included Elnath within Taurus constellation.

A double star, one brilliant white and the companion pale grey, Elnath is of 1.7 magnitude, 25th brightest star in the known sky and a Class B 7 giant. It is about 4.5 times size of solar and about 700 times luminous than our Sun. This star has abundance of manganese compared with the rest of stars. You can trace the star at Right Ascension 5.40 hours and Declination of 28.60 North.

2. Cosmics

Like in the case of astronomy, Elnath remains as mystery in terms of cosmics as well. Its occult significance has never been explained. Though many modern writers tend to describe the star as a violent one related to blood and warfare, mainly due to its description as the butt of horn of Taurus, tradition treats the star with divinity. Hindus considered Elnath as their deity for fire called “ Agni”. Interestingly, the god Agni was often depicted to have 3 legs, a rare feature in Hindu mythology but with high cosmic relevance. Incidentally, fire is considered to be the first of five elements, the others being Ether, Air, Water and Earth. You are aware that your five fingers represent these five elements. When you curl your fist with a thumb –down manner you would see the fire element going down. You would notice that, adrenalin that runs in your system gets duller making you becalm your anger. Pictorially Auriga constellation is shown as the Charioteer flying away to the heaven, to peace and prosperity, after controlling all the five elements with a special emphasis on fire by trampling it under his right foot. So much for the cosmics.

3. Praying for Peace in 2009

Elnath, the star teaches you to do the same. You can control fire and make peace by following the prayer schedule given below. This would grant you inner peace and peace in the globe; shower you prosperity and prosperity for the world. Do the incantations 131 times daily for 131 day beginning from the date given below. To simplify and classify I have listed the prayers under Five Major Religions. Those who follow religions other than those given below should consult their religious elders for guidance.

1. Judaism – YHWH SHALOM

– begin on 25 Kislev ( December 22, 2008)

2. Christianity – OH THE LORD OF PEACE

– begin on Christmas day

3. Islam – YA SALAM

- begin on Muharram 1 ( December 29, 2008)

4. Hinduism – OHM SHANTHI OHM

- begin on Pushya 1 ( January 15, 2008)

5. Buddhism – NAMO SHANTHI JAGATH SHANTHI

– begin on Duruthu Full Moon day ( January 10, 2009)

Geminids Meteor Shower: Relief to Mentally Retarded Children

Friday, July 31st, 2009

( Originally written on blogspot on Sunday December 7, 2008 )

A key issue faced by the parents of mentally retarded children is the absence of medication or relief. Roughly estimated to be about 2 to 3 per centum of population, mentally retarded children show signs of retardation at much early age. For the parents such children cause much anxiety. They need to be given special guidance in the way they could conduct themselves in social skills and learning. Most of these children cannot lead normal lives without aid and assistance. Though it is no longer a social stigma, mentally retarded children often feel that they are neglected. Special care by professionals along with cosmics could bring sought after relief to these children. In this regard, the heaven sent boon is the Geminids meteor shower that takes place during December, the season of gifts and care. Let me explain to you about the Meteor showers and how best you can make use of these.

1. Meteors

You have heard about meteor showers or shooting stars or falling stars. There are millions of these shooting stars seen throughout the year. Most of the showers are named after the constellation they originate from. Perseids for example has its name from Perseus constellation; Leonids and Orionids take their names from Leo and Orion constellations respectively. When you look at the night sky generally after mid-night you will observe streaks of light flicking away in the sky for a second or two. What you see is not a physical matter, because most of these meteors are so small to be seen from the earth, but the atmospheric reaction when these fast moving meteors hit at the earth’s atmosphere resulting in a friction between the air molecules and the surface of the meteor. So you see the burning of the gaseous particles in glowing colour.

This is how the meteors begin. Usually comets pass through the Sun in their orbit and when they get closer to the Sun, they shed parts of their matter. These are known as Meteoroids which travel alone or in a group in the vast expanse of the space. When some of these meteoroids enter into the earth’s orbit we call them Meteors to distinguish from the earlier ones. Most of these meteors burn out as shooting stars. But some of these are large enough to breakthrough and finally hit at the surface of earth, thence these are referred to as Meteorites.

2. Geminids

First discovered in 1862, Geminids stream has its radiant or origin from the Gemini constellation. The stream builds up slowly and peaks for couple of days and then peters out. It begins on December 8 when you see one or two shooting stars per hour. On December 13 & 14 you can observe about 120 shooting stars per hour. As it tails off you see about 2 falling stars per hour. These shooting stars slam at 25 miles per second and offer a magnificent vista to look at in the early hours between 1 to 5 a.m.

3. Cosmics of Geminids

The Geminids stream, unique on several counts has much cosmic relevance to children, especially to the ones who are handicapped:

1. Unlike in the case of all other meteor showers, Geminids do not originate from the debris of a comet, bur from the splinters of an Asteroid. The parent of the Geminids was identified in 1983 and named as “3200 Phaethon”. Incidentally, the parent asteroid is credited with a rare honour. It orbits the Sun and gets too close for comfort, resulting in the fascinating Geminids stream

2. Both planet Jupiter and our Moon have cosmic influence over this Asteroid.

3. During the peak of the shower in December 2008, the Moon is in Taurus constellation belonging to Venus and Jupiter is in its own Sagittarius constellation. The Geminids emanate orange and yellow colour shooting stars, considered to be most auspicious for the children

4. Geminids bring in energy that stimulate mental faculty. Those children who are under the age of 16 would benefit immensely.

4. Viewing

If you can stand the December cold, snow and perhaps the snippy air you can view the celestial phenomenon or December 13 & 14, between 1 00 a.m. to 5.00 a.m. local time.

a) Northern Hemisphere: Look towards East and almost over-head; Mark Betelgeuse a red giant star in the Orion constellation (alpha Orion Right Ascension 5.9 hour and Declination 7 degree North); from there turn your eyes towards the North-East. You will see Castor, a white star in the Gemini constellation (alpha Gemini Right Ascension 7.6 hour and Declination 33 degree North). Just above the Castor you will see the falling stars.

b) Southern Hemisphere: Look towards West and to the Horizon; Mark Betelgeuse; from there turn your eyes towards the North-west. You will see Castor and just above the shooting stars.

5. Useful Hints

a) It is necessary to protect mentally retarded children from the cold, snow and the wind

b) Staying in open and flat place is recommended

c) Provide comfortable seating arrangements

d) Children should be accompanied with the adults and not left alone

e) Viewing the Geminids stream by naked eye is recommended

6. Harnessing Energy

One of the recommendations given for the care of mentally retarded children is to take them along for a walk or an excursion or to while away their time away from home. You can add little adventure too. What best adventure than looking at the mid-night sky in December with the cool air snipping you and the delight of looking at those orange and yellow steaks falling all over these children. Not only that, the Geminids stream will give these children pleasure and a bit of panacea. So go and harness the energy while you can have it. However, depending on particulars of date, time and place of birth of the children, harnessing of the cosmic Geminids energy would require different colour of attire and accessories such as metals to be worn with.

Aldebaran : the Royal star of Passion, Power & Fair- play

Friday, July 31st, 2009

You will never miss the bright star Aldebaran in the Taurus constellation. Looking at a clear sky you see the phenomenon of the charging bull onto Orion , the hunter. You will notice the remarkable red eye of the bull displaying passion , power and fair-play. Yes. It is the Royal star of Persia, one of the four guardians of cardinal directions with responsibility to protect the eastern segment. The star is a splendid object to watch specially during November when you see fascinating fire showers of a meteor in close proximity to Aldebaran. Let me explain the legend, astronomy and cosmics of this great star.

1. Legend

From ancient time Aldebaran marked the Vernal (spring) equinox. In many cultures it was known as the Eastern Star. For Persians it was not only the Guardian of East but also represented the god Mithra, who personified for many qualities such as wisdom, light, power and glory. But god Mithra demanded un-swerving loyalty, integrity and fair-play. Any temptation of greed & passion would negate all the rewards; instead the punishment turns the table: dishonour, incarceration and possible death in ignominy coming in its wake. In later times Aldebaran was also connected with Eastern religions such as Zoroastrian and Buddhism, Often the star is described as The Buddha’s Eye symbolizing the divine wisdom. For Western religions, Aldebaran stood for the archangel Michael who guarded the East.

Though the name Aldebaran is etymologically from Arabic, the star was called by different names across the globe. Ptolemy called it as “ torch” due to the rose colour light emanating from it. Romans called it “ Palilicium” due to the disappearance of the star into evening twilight when feast of Pales was celebrated. For Persians it was Taschter. In Latin it was “ Occulus Tauri” or the Eye of Taurus. Indian named it “Rohini”, for its fire-red.

The Arabic name Al-Dabaran meaning the “ follower” led to many observers to the conclusion that the star follows either or both Pleiades and Hyades two famous sub-groups located within Taurus constellation. This may be due to Aldebaran being the first star in the V shape group of Hyades consisting of six stars inclusive of it. But in terms of legend it is incorrect, because Taurus the bull is charging against Orion the hunter towards the South-eastern direction. Therefore, Aldebaran is not following the Hyades at all. As regards to following Pleiades it must be pointed out that Pleiades is to the west of Aldebaran. Moreover, the word “ follower “ used by Arabs may be construed to mean the one who follows archangel Michael. Fortunately for us Interesting and convincing evidence comes from Al-Sufi , the 10th Century Arab astronomer who counted Aldebaran completely out of the Hyades group.

Let me explain little bit of Hyades; in mythology Hyades represent the seven daughters of Atlas and Aithra. However, there are only six stars in the V shape formation now; Hesiod the Greek Poet gives only five names of the daughters. Therefore, Al-Sufi is right in taking Aldebaran completely out of the Group of Hyades. Yet another proof is that of gamma Tauri, a star in this group which is called as “Prima Hyadum” or the first of the followers. Hence, we can safely treat Aldebaran as distinct from the group of Hyades. Whatever it may be, Aldebaran stands singularly out of these six stars.

There is some warning; the vacant space between Aldebaran and westwards to Pleiades is full of mines. Al-Biruni initially summoned his courage to call this area ”Al-Daika” or “ growing small”. But later he abandoned his courage and called it as “ Kalb-Al-Dabaran” meaning “the dog of the follower”, a metaphysical expression to indicate that you are treading on an evil path.

2. Astronomy

Aldebaran is astronomically referred to as alpha Tauri, an orange-reddish giant of K5III spectral class. It is a star of first magnitude in brightness generally hovering around 0.85 to 0.9 magnitude range, reflecting its variability. It is located in Right Ascension 4.60 hrs and Declination of 16.45 degree North. It is best seen in November though for about 8 months you can watch it without binoculars. It has three companions; all are red dwarfs smaller than our Sun. Companion B is close by whereas C & D are far away. Its surface temperature is below 4000 Kelvin, much lower than that of our Sun. Due to this cooler temperature, the star gives orange to rose colour light. Aldebaran is some 65 light years away and about 300 times luminous than the Sun with about 2.5 times of the size of the Sun. The star is very close to the Ecliptic. Hence, often is covered or occulted by both luminaries the Sun and the Moon, by the latter much regularly. Sun is pretty close to it in early June whereupon the star loses its brightness completely. Aldebaran is moving away from us at a speed of 30 miles per second.

Aldebaran is in advanced stage of its evolution like our Sun and burns helium into carbon. Astronomers continue to study the star for its solar spectrum and the fact it rotates slowly and wobble in its path. The beauty of Aldebaran is that it is very close to the point where we see the meteor Taurides. The debris of a dead comet by the name of Encke is showered towards earth in high velocity. For us on earth this phenomenon is clear during November 5 to 12. Though this cannot be seen every year due to obstruction by planets , especially by Jupiter, the 2008 shower of the meteor was marvellous indeed.

3. Cosmics

Cosmically Aldebaran means many things to many people. Generally it showers courage, wisdom and light; grants honour, fortune and wealth; takes you to higher sexuality and sensuousness. But negatives are damning: you brush on the wrong side, then the, Royal Star gives you a spank. You always go in a merry –go- round. You succeed in life and there is temptation and then you fall fast. No wonder, the Persians equated it to God Mithra. When you are unscrupulous or tempted your honour turns into dishonour; your courage transforms into violence; your sexuality over-turns to sadistic and hyper-sex.

If Aldebaran is your birth star, and placed well with the Sun and Moon it is an excellent motivator. It teaches you how to be a disciplined soldier, statesman business leader and a societal man. Its position with other planets also generates positive or negative energy; positive energy makes you a great personality enjoying success with pleasure; negative energy, on the other hand, would end you in prison and lead you to your demise in ignominy.

Symbology equates it as the eastern part of the Cross supported by the Hebrew letter Aleph implying leadership and hard work often signalling peace with resoluteness. In meteorology Aldebaran is everything put together: rain, thunder, lightning and wind. Ancient cultures saw Aldebaran heralding rain as well as spring.

Diamonds are forever with Alderbaran. Women under the influence of the star should choose diamonds sparkling in reddish or rose hues. For men it must be bluish for courage and definitely more zing to their sexual potency.

Mars – Sun Conjunction in December 2008

Friday, July 31st, 2009

(Originally published in Blogger on Tuesday November 25, 2008)

Mars-Sun Conjunction takes place almost at regular intervals, usually once in two years. Previous conjunctions in August 2002, September 2004 and October 2006 are of commonplace when compared with the conjunction scheduled to take place on December 5, 2008 at 22.00 GMT/UTC. It is phenomenal because the conjunction would be in the Ophiuchus constellation, which is a Non-Zodiacal constellation through which the Sun traverses in its ecliptical path. In fact the Sun enters this constellation on November 30 and leaves on December 18. It is indeed phenomenal because this event takes place in direct line between the stars “Imad” (theta Ophiuchi) and omega Ophiuchi. Incidentally, Johannes Kepler, a 17th Century German Astronomer observed a supernova exploding in the area of sky close to the star theta Ophiuchi in 1604. Let me give you a brief:

1. Astronomical Position

1. The event takes place on the parallel line between theta and omega Ophiuchi at the left foot of the Ophiuchus at the location marked Right Ascension(RA) of 16.85 and Declination(Dec) of 22.65 South. As a result, the planet Mars would be in total eclipse

2. From this location if we look at the directions we find planet, stars and Globular Clusters in all eight directions:

North: The Star “Hun” known technically as zeta Ophiuchi; a blue giant of 2,5 visual magnitude; third bright star in this constellation emitting blue to white colour; spectral class of O9 located on the left knee of the Ophiuchus

North-west: Omega, phi, chi and psi Ophiuchi: four stars of benevolent nature forming almost a semi-circle located in RA ranging between 16.41 to 16.53. All stars more or less are of 4.5 visual magnitude with spectral class ranging from A to F

West: Rho Ophiuchi; a magnificent blue-white star giant giving a hue of bluish reflection in the nebulae surrounding it. A “Class B” luminous giant located at RA 16.42

South-west: M62 Globular Cluster; located at RA 17.01. Though visually of 6.5 magnitude it is 22,500 light years away and has large stock of stars, populated densely with variable and X-Ray emitting stars

South: M 19 Globular Cluster, located at RA17.05. Though visually of 6.8 magnitude, this cluster is some 28,400 light years away. Rich with stars and fairly densely populated with stars; the cluster is moving away from the earth at 90 miles per second

South-east: The planet Mercury located at RA 17.20

East: Xi Ophiuchi a double star of 4.5 visual magnitude located at RA 17.35

North-East: Sabik known technically as eta Ophiuchi; Al – Tizini the 15th Century Arab Astronomer called it as “Sabik” an unusual name meaning “it precedes the other stars”. This star is located in the left leg of Ophiuchus. It is a binary and a variable star of A2 spectral class emitting white to yellow rays.

2. Mythology

This constellation is named after a famous Greek physician by the name of Asclepius who learned the art of reviving dead person by observing a live snake reviving a dead one. He started to cure humans from all diseases including the ones that bring death upon them. Fearing that he would make humans immortal in doing so, Zeus struck him with a bolt. However to honour his greatness Zeus placed Ophiuchus in the sky along with the serpent. Interestingly, the serpent was placed such that its head (Caput) onto his right and its tail (Cauda) onto his left and the middle coiled in between his thighs. He was called as Ophiuchus in Greek and Serpentarius in Latin both mean “the serpent handler”. Universally, the Serpent became the symbol of medicine thereafter.

3. Cosmics

Whenever the Sun traverses through Ophiuchus constellation it gives a salutary, becalming effect on the terrestrial sphere. Here the Sun becomes a “healer” or “sugar daddy”. The fact that Mars conjuncts Sun means the fire and rage of Mars would be extinguished and in its place you find serenity and peace. This event taking place on December 5 2008 is followed by three important celebrations for the three religions: Islam, Christianity and Judaism.

• For the Jewish nation it is Hanukkah, the “Festival of Light” on December 22

• For Christians, it is Christmas celebrating the birth day of the Prince of Peace on December 2

• For Muslims it is the “Day of Arafath” scheduled to take place on Saturday December 7 in the Holy city of Mecca followed by the Festival throughout the world

4. Hanukkah

Hanukkah begins on the 25th day of Kislev, which is the 9th month in the Jewish calendar. This year the 25th date falls on December 22. The celebration lasts for eight days. On the first day one candle is lit and on the second day one more is added making it two and so on till the eighth day when eight candles are lit. These candles are placed right to left in the Menorah. This event commemorates the cleansing of the Temple by Judas Maccabeus who struggled with Antiochus Epiphanes, the Greek overlord who desecrated the Temple by slaughtering pigs inside. Since, there is nothing left inside the Temple that was clean except for little olive oil the lamp was lit with this little oil. Miraculously, this little oil lasted for eight days. Since then it is customary to light candles for eight consecutive days.

But the Hanukkah, this year has much more significance:

1. When the Mars-Sun conjunction takes place there are celestial bodies in all eight directions

2. On the day this conjunction takes place the Moon is in its eighth day

3. The number eight denotes the power of super natural to re-write the history of chaos that commenced on 2000 and ends in 2008, an eight year period.

5. Action and Re-action

The Action is for the world to send greetings to the Jewish nation which begins the festival of light on December 22. As each day passes with candles lit in ascending order the heaven and the eight stars that were located in the eight directions shall be illuminated and would bestow blessings of the Lord on the terrestrial beings.

The Re-action is also of eight-fold:

1. Changing of helmsmen in countries across the globe takes place

2. Un-doing of actions by despots, maniacs and ungodly men who brought the world to its knees in politics and economics

3. Establishing peace in theatres of war across the globe

4. Stabilizing the world economic system such that confidence in currencies and banks is restored

5. Investing in prosperity and growth such that the peace dividends percolate to varied segments of people across the globe

6. Liberalizing trade and movement of people so that the entire globe becomes a small village

7. Understanding different cultures across the globe so that bridges are built and boats are never burnt

8. Raising the sense of social responsibility of the people so that Charity is one again enthroned.

Your Lucky Star – Cosmic Considerations

Sunday, June 21st, 2009

Every person is born under a celestial object. It might be a Star, Cluster or Nebulae. The last two are referred to as Deep Sky Objects (DSO). In this Blog I am writing about stars only. Whether a birth star is a Lucky Star or not depends on two considerations: One relates to astronomy; the other relates to cosmics. In an earlier Blog I wrote about the astronomical considerations. In this, I give you a bird’s eye view of the chief cosmic considerations about your birth star.

1. Name of a star

Most of the big and bright stars are already named. About 70 percent of such names originate from Arabic sources, while about 20 % are derived from Greco-Latin sources. The balance is contributed by diverse sources including Hebraic, Sumerian, Babylonian, Egyptian, Persian, Turkish, Chinese and host of others. Let me give you few illustrations:

· Aldebaran (alpha Taurus) from Arabic means “followers”

· Hydor (lambda Aquarius) from Greek means “water”

· Ascellus Borealis ( gamma Cancer) from Latin means “ northern donkey”

· Sargas ( theta Scorpion) from Babylonian

· Nunki ( sigma Sagittarius) from Sumerian means “ voice from the sea”

· Yildun (delta Ursa Minor) from Turkish means “ dance”

There are variations of names as well. Few examples:

· Al-Ras Al- Asad Janubiah ( epsilon Leo) known as Al-Ras-Al- Asad Australis

· Tejat Posterior ( mu Gemini ) Tejat from Arabic means “unknown “ and posterior from Latin means “ rear”

· Tarazed ( gamma Aquila) from Persian means “ Scale”; also referred as Al-Meezan from Arabic with similar meaning

· Kochab ( beta Ursa Minor) origin is disputed between Hebraic and Arabic

Stars found after the Middle Ages were not named. In order to classify the stars Bayer used individual letters of Greek alphabet. This was done purely on the basis of visual magnitude. Since the alphabet has only 24 letters modern astronomers use numbers instead of names or alphabet. For cosmic purposes it is the name that matters a lot.

2. Colour of a star

The colour of a star and its surface temperature are co-related. From ancient times colour of star was accorded great significance. Few examples are given:

· White – Deneb Adige ( alpha Cygnus) – denotes immense wealth

· Pale Yellow – Al-Gorab (delta Corvus) – denotes misery

· Blue – Denebola ( beta Leo) – denotes power & glory

· Red – Antares ( alpha Scorpion) – denotes bravery & victory

· Orange – Altarf ( beta Cancer) – denotes cold & calculated personality

3. Location of a star

Position of star is of prime importance. Greek astronomer Ptolemy discoursed on the subject of the cosmic relevance on the basis of each star’s location in a particular constellation. He identified more than 1000 stars in 48 constellations. Ptolemy used direction, part, limb or position to identify the location. For example, in the case of stars in Aries constellation, he employed head, mouth, back foot and tail as specific locations. Depending on this location, each star has different cosmic effect, he concluded. This leads us spontaneously to the subject of constellations.

4. Constellations

Basically, a constellation is a group of stars, seen from the earth as forming a particular pattern in the sky. In ancient times, constellations were named mainly after living beings: Greek Gods, Mythological figures, Heroes, men and women, animals, birds, Fish, serpents, dragons and many others. Virgo & Hercules are good examples. Very few of them were named after a device such as pair of scales as in the case of Libra. Of course, utility items such as sword, bow and arrow were in the list; mode of transport such as ships found their way to the heaven.

Arab and Greek astronomers were locating stars by observing the sky in the northern hemisphere by naked eye or using early telescopes. As the middle age passed, astronomers were travelling to continents in the southern hemisphere and by using modern equipments they were able to find several stars. By this time the life style has changed from agriculture to industrial age. Hence new found stars were grouped under constellations with such names as Circinus (compass) and Telescopium (telescope), both of these formed by La Caille in 1752. Not that the astronomers were entirely mechanical in their mind-set. Still they had a sense of breathing in their thoughts. Pavo (peacock) constellation formed by Bayer in 1604 bears evidence to this.

As technology progressed, the need to re-capitulate constellations arose. Argo Navis (Ship), an ancient constellation was sub-divided into four individual constellations; Carina (Keel), Vela (Sails) Puppis (Stern) and Pyxis (Compass Box). In the modern times the International Astronomical Union has recognized 88 constellations to bring the burgeoning of constellations to an end.

It must be pointed out that these 88 constellations are now divided into eight constellation families. The Zodiac family consists of the 12 zodiacal constellations such as Aries. The Hercules family has 19 constellations the largest number for a single family whereas Orion family has only 5 constellations including the famous Orion the hunter. Astronomers Bayer added 11 new constellations while La Caille was proficient with 13 of the new ones.

5. Asterism

In addition to be grouped under a constellation, some of the stars get into prestigious clubs known as “asterism”. An asterism is technically a sub-group within a major constellation. The asterism is known for a particular pattern, or symbol or form. Few of these are explained below:

· Sickle of Leo: a sickle shape asterism traversing from head to the body of the lion. The stars are Regulus ( alpha), Algeiba (gamma), Aldhafara (zeta) & Al-Ras Al-Asad Australis (epsilon) all in the Leo constellation

· Belt of Orion: a belt shape asterism in the waist of the hunter. The stars are Mintaka (delta) Al Nilam ( epsilon) & Al Nitak ( zeta) all in Orion constellation

· Circlet of the Fish: a circle in the mouth of the western fish. The stars are Fom Al-Samakah ( beta) , gamma,, theta, iota, kappa, lambda and 19 Piscium all in the Pisces constellation

6. Formation

Stars do make a formation within and across constellation into various shapes such as triangle, square, round etc.

1. Within constellation: The stars located in the western and northern part of the Cancer constellation forms a Square. The stars are: eta, theta, zeta and mu Cancer. Incidentally all these stars are located between 8.12 hrs to 8.50 hrs of Right Ascension (RA)

2. Across constellation: The stars Markab (alpha) Scheat (beta) & Algenib (gamma) from the Leo constellation form a major Triangle by joining Alpharetz (alpha) of Andromeda constellation.

7. Lunar mansions

Stars find their home in Lunar Mansions, known in Arabic as Al-Manzil al-Qamar. There are 28 lunar mansions. The boundary line of each mansion is defined by several writers, such as Abneragel (Ali bin Ali-Rajal) , Dorotheos, Agrippa, Al-Biruni and Ibnu Arabi.

8. Zodiacal signs

Lastly, stars are also at home in a particular zodiacal sign. The ancient 12 signs are accepted without contest. Yet, it must be made clear, that the Sun travels in its ecliptical path across these 12 signs plus Ophiuchus ( Serpent carrier) & Cetus ( Whale) constellations as well.

Both Lunar mansions and Zodiacal signs are given in zodiacal degree rather than in the astronomical measure of Right Ascension. At present time these two measures do not tally. The Vernal Equinox of 21st March originally fell on the Aries sign. At present, it is in the Pisces sign. In time to come as we move on to the Aquarian age it would fall on Aquarius sign. This is due to what we call as the precession of the earth given as the difference between the solar time and the star time. Nothing to despair! We have two consoling facts:

1. Due to the tilt of the earth in its axis, at present 23 degree 44 minutes we have different set of circumstance. The tilt itself is variable and the International Astronomical Union periodically computes it. As a consequence we have differences in seasons and climate; more than that, the change of North star. Right now the North Star is Polaris. After 5000 years the North star would be Alderamain ( alpha Cepheus) and in 7000 years time it would be Vega ( alpha Lyra)

2. The Universe is on constant move. Our Solar System is moving. Milky Way Galaxy, to which our solar system belongs is moving. To cap it all, the Local Group of Galaxy to which the Milky Way belongs is also on the march.

Therefore, movement is a fact of life on earth and in the heavens. We can map the movement on the Lunar mansion as well as in the Zodiacal signs as well and get on with our work.

Though there are many other cosmic considerations, the above 8 items are the chief ones that need to be evaluated to find out the impact and influence of your Birth Star.

Your Lucky Star : Astronomical Considerations

Sunday, June 21st, 2009

Every person is born under a celestial object. It might be a star, Cluster or Nebulae. The last two are referred to as Deep Sky Objects (DSO). In this Blog I am writing about stars only. Whether a birth star is a Lucky Star or not depends on two considerations: One relates to astronomy; the other relates to cosmics. Astronomy is based on observational and calculated data. Unlike in the case of other physical sciences it cannot be proved by exact evidence or precision. For example, the distance between the Earth and the Sun is about 93 million miles. Nobody ever did physically measure it anyway. However, astronomical data throws a lot of light and perhaps insight upon the impact and influence the stars have on you and me. The following are a broad brush stroke of the chief astronomical considerations about your birth star.

1. Visual Magnitude: It is also referred to as apparent magnitude. Conventionally written as lower case “m or V”. This is a measure of brightness of a star as you see it from the earth. You can see stars up to 6th magnitude by naked eye. Beyond 6th magnitude you can see them using telescope only; hence the term telescopic stars. The scale of brightness runs from 0 to 25. As the scale goes higher the stars become dimmer and fainter. Sometimes we use the scale with minus value. This relates to extreme brightness. In the case of negative value as the value goes lower the extreme brightness shoots up.

Visual magnitude ignores the distance of the star from the earth. As you are aware, the brightness of a star is the function of its internal energy generation and the quantum of light it emits into space. A good example is Sirius, the dog star, which is some 26 times brighter than the Sun, but being almost 9 light years way it appears to us dimmer than the Sun.

2. Absolute Brightness; In order to evaluate absolute brightness of stars, astronomers have set –up a standard. They place stars as if they were located 32.6 light years away. When we do this the scale of absolute brightness would read as follows: The Sun is 4.8, whereas Sirius 1.4 . Hence Sirius is about 3.4 times brighter than the Sun. Absolute Brightness is conventionally written as upper case “M or Mv”. It is alternatively known as Real Brightness. For purpose of analysis absolute brightness is preferred over visual magnitude.

3. Spectral Class: This is a system of classification based on the spectrum of a star. Astronomers see a star and observe an emission line from which they can surmise the co-relation of the surface temperature with its colour. Generally we talk about 7 spectral types given as O,B,A, F,G,K,M. A useful mnemonics is Oh Be A fine girl And Kiss Me. I give below surface temperature, colour of each classes and a specimen star that goes with it.

Class Surface Temperature (Kelvin) Colour  Star

O 30,000 to 50,000 Blue Alnitak

B 10,000 to 30,000 Blue to White Rigel

A 7,500 to 10,000 White Altair

F 6,000 to 7,500 White to Yellow Pherkad

G 5,000 to 6,000 Yellow Procyon

K 3,500 to 5,000 Orange Altarf

M Less than 3,000 Red Antares

Each spectral class is further sub-divided into a scale of 0 to 9. For Example: the Sun is G2 star whereas Rigel is B8 star.

4. Luminosity: This is very much linked to Absolute Brightness. Luminosity stands for total brightness including the quantum of light and energy a star emits into the space, along with other aspects such as wavelengths and electro – magnetic radiation. Luminosity is given in Yerkes Class in Roman Numbers and was developed by the University of Chicago, Yerkes Observatory.

Class Type

I a Very luminous super giant

I b Luminous super giant

II Luminous giants

III Giants

IV Sub-giants

V Dwarfs

VI Sub-dwarfs

VII White Dwarf

Super giants are very large stars. Betelgeuse is an example. White dwarfs are smaller than our Earth. Sirius B and Ruiz are good examples.

On the subject of spectrum there is one more thing must to be noted. Astronomers observe the line of emission carefully and describe peculiar details (if any) surrounding such line of emission. Usually, this peculiarity is given in lower case. The following are few of these:

e for emission lines present

k for interstellar absorption features

m for enhanced metallic

n for nebulous due to spinning

p for peculiar

q for red and blue lines present

s for sharp absorption lines

v for variable features

w for weak lines

Now you can read the notation of any star and find out what it means. Here are some examples:

· Deneb Adige, A2Iae : White 2 very luminous super giant, with emission lines present

· Castor, A2Vm : White 2 Dwarf with enhanced metallic

· Alpheratz, B8IVmnp : Light blue 8 sub-giant with enhanced metallic, nebulous due to spinning and peculiar emission

5. Light Year: Stars are too far away. Hence we use a system known of light years (l/y) to indicate their distance. A light year is the distance light travels in one year in a vacuum. It is estimated as a staggering 5,880,000 million miles. The closest star to our earth is Alpha Centauri C which is approximately 4.3 l/y away whereas. In contrast , Vega is about 25 l/y away.

6. Size of a star: This generally means the Radius of a star, which is presumed to be a function of luminosity and temperature. The radius of the Sun is 432,163 miles. The radius of Algenib is more than 2 million miles, which is about 4.5 times that of the sun. Hence we write it as “4.5 Solar”.

7. Mass of a star: This is arrived at after using the law of gravity. In order to attempt this analysis, we need to compare a star with its companion. Fortunately for us, majority of stars do have such companions. About half of the star population are binaries. Many others are double stars. The mass of stars vary in a scale from 0.08 of the Sun to more than 100 times of the Sun. For example, Mirzam has a mass of 15 times that of the Sun, conventionally written as “15M Sun”.

8. Age of a star: The age of any star is just an estimate only. The Sun is approximately 4.5 billion years old. It has 5 Billion years left before its potential death as a star. Compared to this Alnitak is about 6 billion years old.

9. Companions: Stars like humans beings have never been single. They have relationship with one or more stars. Such relationship takes several forms:

A) Double star: Two stars that appear to us on the earth as if close to each other. Acubens is a double star one is white and the other is red.

B) Binary Star: A binary is two stars that rotate around a common centre. Alpha Centauri A & B are binaries

C) Multiple star system: This consists of double stars or binaries or even ternary. There are two types. First, it may have physical relationship with a binary or a star that orbits it. Second, it may be an optical issue, that is we see them close to each other but there is no gravitational relationship established. Regulus is a multiple star system.

10. Variable stars: a star whose brightness varies regularly. This variation takes place once in few minutes or in months or in years. Algol for example varies every 2.9 days whereas Mira does so every 330 days.

11. Motion of a star: There are two types of motion.

A) Proper motion: Also known as Real Motion. All stars have motion in relation to each other in the space. Likewise our Milky Way also has motion. In fact the entire Universe and the Cosmos are in motion. We calculate proper motion of a star by observing its position over a period of time. Proper motion is generally given as units of arc second for year. The star with the fastest motion is Bernard’s star with 10 seconds of arc per annum.

B) Radial motion: This motion relates to the position of the star to or from the Earth. Some stars proceed towards the earth. Example Mu Cassiopeia which approaches the Earth 61 miles per second. Many others move away from the earth. Aldebaran, for example, recedes from earth 30 miles per second.

12. Main Sequence star: This type of stars generates energy by converting hydrogen into helium at the core. Our Sun is a main sequence star. The hotter they are the brighter. Most of these are Dwarfs as per Yerkes classification given earlier. Those stars that are no longer main sequence stars are known as Post-main sequence stars. These stars burn helium and are at the end of their life span. After 5 billion years our Sun would also become a post-main sequence star before its eventual death.

Though there are so many other astronomical considerations, the above 12 items are the chief ones that need to be evaluated to find out the impact and influence of your Birth Star.

Star Regulus: Anarchy without Monarchy

Sunday, June 21st, 2009

This is an era of anarchy. Everywhere there is chaos, turmoil, war and pestilence. Financial melt-down, political instability, economic recession and social upheaval are spreading right across the globe. Why this anarchy? The answer is very simple: it is because there is no monarchy – reigning or constitutional – in many countries; it is because even there is one already the people are clamouring for its abolition. Recently, Nepal sent King Gayendra into oblivion. Down under, the debate of abolishing monarchy springs up time and again.

Wherever the monarchy was removed, very often unceremoniously and un-constitutionally, it was followed with an extended period of chaos. Twentieth Century was dotted with countries that had the share of turmoil arising from this phenomenon. Russia, Germany, Austria, Italy, Spain & Turkey in Europe, Afghanistan & Iran in Asia, Egypt & Libya in Africa are chief amongst these nations. Will this trend continue?

No absolutely not. Surveying the Sky in 2008, Douglas Gies of the Georgia State University found an interesting companion star for the Royal star of Regulus. This is “D” star in the group. Already Regulus has two companions “B” & “C”. One more companion to Regulus reverses the trend of abolishing monarchy. In its stead restoration of Monarchy would take place across the globe. A good lesson has already been learnt in this current financial melt-down. In countries where monarchy is retained, the ill-effect of the chaos is less. Look at the Nordic countries; look at Japan; look at even England. The situation is not as bad as in countries where there is no monarchy. Now look at the United States, Germany and France.

Historically, Royalty and Regulus are very much connected. Regulus together with three more stars namely, Antares, Fomalhaut and Aldebaran were considered as the royal Stars of Persia about 3000 B.C. They were venerated as the four guardians of heaven: Regulus in north, Antares in west, Fomalhaut in South and Aldebaran in East. The Persian names went as Venant, Satevis, Hastorang and Tascheter respectively. These four stars not only acted as guardians but also marked the season as well. These were located approximately in 6 hours interval in the space roughly about 3 months marking the equinoxes and the solstices. Out of the four guardians, Regulus was given a pride of place. It represented the Summer Solstices and was depicted as the Lion; no wonder the Persian flag had Lion as its emblem. Yet another reason is that the star Regulus is in Leo Constellation.

In various cultures Regulus was saluted royally. Babylonians called it “Sharru” – King; Indians enthroned it Magha- Mighty; Arabs coroneted it Maliky – Kingly; Romans anointed it as Basilica Regia or Stella Regia – Royal star; Greeks went little muted Basiliscos – The little king. The present name Regulus meaning “the little king” perhaps originated from the Greeks. As Regulus was located away from the head towards the body of the Lion it was named Cor Leonis – Lions’ Heart. Al-Biruni had it much more colourfully “Al-Kalb al-Asad - the heart of the Lion”. But for modern astronomers it is simply Alpha (a) Leonis.

Astronomically, Regulus is of 1.35 magnitudes with a magnificent Bluish-white colour aptly described as B-7 star. It is approximately 3.4 times size of the Sun, 137 times luminous than the Sun. A young star formed few million years ago, Regulus spins much faster than the Sun. Like the sun it generates light and energy by converting hydrogen into helium at its core. We call this “main-sequence”. In fact Regulus is the star that is much closer to the Sun amongst the main sequence stars in the heaven. Due to its rapid rotation the Round star turned like a pumpkin. Not only that, it gives out much more luminosity. Though the luminosity of 137 times is given the visible luminosity can raise high as 340 times.

Regulus is located almost on the Ecliptic. Consequently often it is overshadowed by the Sun. On or about 20th August the Sun would completely cover Regulus. The Moon also does this job regularly. You can locate Regulus at Right Ascension (RA) 10 hour 15/100 minutes and Declination (Dec) plus 12 Degree 12/100 minutes. The best time to view is April to June period.

As already mentioned Regulus has companion stars B C and D. Hence we call Regulus a “multiple star system”. Few words about its companion would not be out of place.

B – An orange dwarf binary star of 8.5 magnitude and K2star orbiting once in 120,000 years

C – A faint red dwarf considered as M4 star orbiting once in 1000 years

D – A white dwarf just a third of the size of the Sun orbiting every 40 days. It was found due to its gravitational pull. Enough of astronomy for now.

Regarding cosmics, the Royal star is a great spectacle to look at. In fact Regulus is approaching the earth travelling about 5 miles per second. Day after day it becomes brighter and more bluish and not to mention more royal. Its soothing light brings you inner harmony and enhances your vision. Have you ever been touched by a Royal? If so you will know the soothing effect of the royal touch. You can experience the same feeling while looking at the royal star of Regulus.

If you are born under this star it is truly magnificent. It gives you magnanimity, liberal attitude, independence and the halo effect around you. But do not worry; Fame of the Monarch spread much far and wide. Even if you are born under any star that is located in one of two areas given below you can continue to have the royal feeling. And auspiciousness to boot.

1. The area called as “ Sickle of Leo”, a sickle shape group of stars showing the head of the lion and its nearer body, Regulus marks the end of this sickle

2. The Triangle formed by Regulus with Procyon in the Constellation Canis Minor and Alphard in the Constellation Hydra.

Will Israel Attack Nuclear sites in Iran?

Sunday, June 21st, 2009

This blog post was originally published in Blogger on October, 9 2008

As the Jewish nation marks the beginning of Yom Kippur minutes before sun-down on Wednesday the 8th October 2008, Israel begins to celebrate the holiest and important holiday known as “Day of Atonement” that comes after 10 days of repentance, in the 7th month of Tisheri in the Jewish calendar and the nagging thought of what to do about a Nuclear Iran . Traditionally, the Blowing of shofar (horn) Takes place in Yom Kippur. But will the drums beat and beagle blow for a war with Iran?

Political expediency set apart, signals from the cosmos would indicate where Israel is heading for. Will there be a quick and indecisive war or a period of prolonged uneasy peace? At sun-down on 8th October viewing from Jerusalem the heavens above show the following:

1. The moon was on 8.8 days old in the first quarter indicating some tough decision-making is right at the corner. Such a decision would be anchored upon the raw strength of military calculation meshed with pragmatic consideration. The Moon is on the 24th mansion of Al-Shad – al-Suud (most fortunate of the fortunate), hence, it forecasts that the army can be sent forth on a successful mission.

2. The Moon sights M75 Globular, a vast cluster of almost 130 light years in diameter, standing some 67,500 light years away from the earth with a visual magnitude of 8.5. This cluster is about 180,000 times brighter than the Sun. Due to the massive nature of the cluster the Moon sights the implication is that the assignment for the Israeli forces would be a very tough one. Either it must be concentrated attack over several sites at one and the same time or just a mission that would botch like the one President Carter undertook years back

3. When I checked the position of Mars, the planet of war it gives a different outlook. Mars is hemmed between the Sun and Venus almost in direct line on the south-west direction. In fact Mars is almost equidistant between the two. The Sun touches right Ascension (RA) 13th hour Venus on RA 15th hour and Mars just passing RA 14th hour. Mars is in a non-threatening triangle formation with Kappa and Lambda Virginis, two stars in the 5th Magnitude, located more towards the western part of the Virgo Constellation. Lambda Virginis is known as Khambalia, a Coptic word meaning “crooked & clawed”; In Arabic it relates to the word “Khamr” the wine. It also stands for secrets of divinity in cosmics. On another angle it also indicates forgiveness yet another divine quality. Does Israel possesses the necessary intelligence regarding the nuclear sites of Iran or she is ready to live with Iran with the power of mutually assured destruction?

4. At the end of line stands Venus, the Goddess of Love and significantly pretty close to Zuben Elgenubi located at RA 14th hour and 88/100 minutes and Declination at 15 degree 87/100 minutes. This star also faces Mars directly. Known in Arabic Al-Zuban –al-Janubiah (the claw of the south). It is also known as Al-kiffah-al-Janubiah (south tray of scale) & Al-Wazn –al- Janubiah (weight of the south). Modern authors have called it simply as Kiffa Australis or South Scale. Al-Biruni holding a different connotation used the word Zaban meaning “Push” that is, the star pushes the other stars. Zuben Elgenubi is a double star alpha 1 of pale yellow colour & 3rd magnitude and alpha 2 of light gray colour & 6th magnitude. Both the star Zuben Elgenubi and Venus are in the Libra Constellation. The star generally foretells serious losses and destruction for the city or country. However, the Libra Constellation and the fact Venus is now there makes the chance of war very minimal. May be Al-Biruni is right; instead of pushing for war Israel might push for start secret negotiations with Iran for a settlement.

5. The question mark is how Saturn behaves in the heaven. Al-Biruni classified Jerusalem under the influence of Leo Constellation. Right now Saturn is there in Leo at RA 11th hour 18/100 minutes. At this pint Saturn has an open-ended V formation with two stars. Sigma Leo a 4.1 magnitude star and 59 Leo a 5.1 magnitude star. Let me digress for a moment. Leo constellation commemorates the war between Hercules and the Nemean Lion. Although the Lion bit off Hercules’ finger ultimately he kills the lion. As far as Saturn stays in the Leo constellation , the idea of war would be ever present in the mind of Israeli leaders.

6. It is widely expected that Israel will launch an attack between November 4 the Election Day in United State and January 20, 2009 Inauguration Day of the 44th President of the USA. When I traced these days, I found an interesting phenomenon. Saturn continues to have some relationship with Sigma Leo till it bids goodbye to Leo Constellation on or about 8th September 2009. Since Sigma Leo, is at the bottom of the right hind leg of the Lion and the fact that the drawing is sketched such that the Lion keeps right hind leg as back foot (the left hind leg is in front) the presumption is any military action would be kept on back-burner.

Therefore, it is clear that the talk of attacking nuclear sites in Iran is for the domestic consumption in Israel rather than a serious military assignment. The price to be paid for an attack on nuclear sites in Iran would be much higher than the price for having a period of un-easy peace.

Barack Obama: Message from the Heaven

Sunday, June 21st, 2009

This blog post was originally posted on Blogger on October 7, 2008

August 4, 1961

Barack Obama is born under a bright and luminous star known technically as Gamma Tauri but commonly known as Prima Hyadum (Hyadum1). The Greek name Prima Hyadum means the first of the rain-giver. The appearance of the star is considered as a welcome relief from the scorching Sun. A yellow coloured star of 3.9 magnitude, Prima Hyadum is chief among the group of six stars called Hyades and located on the forehead of the Bull, in the Taurus Constellation. From this strategic position, the other stars branch off over the V shape head of the Taurus. Arab astronomers also called Prima Hyadum as Awwal-al Debaran (the first of the followers).

Mythologically, Hyades are seven daughters of Atlas and Aethra and half sisters of Pleiades. Classical authors such as Homer and Pliny have mentioned the star in their works so did cultures such as Babylonian, Chinese and Indian. It is said that Samson used the weapons of Hyades to defeat the Philistines.

Astronomically, the star group consists of 6 stars and not 7 stars as mentioned in the mythology. Prima Hyadum is approximately 600 million years old, 150 light years away from the earth, about 2.6 times the size of the Sun and 65 times luminous than the Sun. Though the star is said to vary in its luminosity the variation is insignificant. It is very rich in iron and oxygen and has a huge magnetic belt surrounding it. The star emits X-rays. It is prominently seen in the month of November in the Eastern sky. You can locate the star by looking at Right Ascension (RA) 4 hour and 30/100 minutes and Declination(Dec) 15 degrees 80/100 minutes.

Cosmically, Prima Hyadum is a great benefactor. Often it appears after a period of instability to effect stability on the earth. The name Prima Hyadum itself suggests that it is a welcome rain sign after a period of chaos and dryness.

Barack Obama who comes under the influence of this star shall have the following qualities:

1) A Change Agent

2) A peerless commander-in-Chief

3) Be victorious over competitors and enemies

4) A person who brings glad tidings and welcome relief

5) A stabilizer in the Six realms: Politics, Economics, Military, Society, Technology & Wellness

6) A Hard worker

7) Leads followers and people to Greatness

8) Shows fairness to friends and enemies alike

9) Combines diplomacy with bravery

November 4, 2008

On Election Day, the north-western sky shows an interesting triangle formed by the Moon which is 6 days old with Jupiter and three stars known as Chi (X) Sagittari. These stars are individually known as X1, X2, and X3 respectively. Though these stars vary in the magnitude from 5.02 for X1, 7.26 for X2 and 5.45 for X3 these are very auspicious. You can locate the three stars at RA 19 hours 43/100 minutes and Dec minus 24 degree 25/100 minutes approximately. Furthermore, these stars are located on the fluttering shawl of the Archer Sagittarius.

These three stars signify the enhancement of the 3 – dimensional Superpower status of the United States in Political, Economical and Military realms. On 4th November 2008 the President elected would be the person who will turn-around the United States from the present abyss

The Message

Therefore, that the message from the heavens is read clearly as follows:

1. What the heavens want and what the people on earth want are synthesized in the form of Barack Obama being elected as the 44th President of the United States

2. Barack Obama will win the Presidential Election convincingly

3. More women would vote for him across the political divide

4. The percentage of Republicans voting for him will be more than the percentage of Democrats voting for his opponent.
